]]>I have been an intern just shy of two weeks at the time of this blog and I have already learned quite a bit. Learning the tractor and how to maneuver with the mower, rake, and baler has been the majority of what I have done. I have also learned how to move and load bales onto trailers for our customers. Being patient and not rushing the job will more then likely lead to a job well done and less malfunctions with equipment.
leading up to this internship I read the book Raving Fans by Ken Blanchard. A quick read but heavy on the importance of not only good customer service but creating raving fans. Through these weeks I have seen the correlation between this book and the way G Farms operates with our customers. From the way we select, age, and prepare our meat to Willie personally delivering and informing our costumers of proper handling and preparation of products.
Going into the internship I was uncertain of the sales aspect of the business but am slowly learning. I am not a big social media guy so using Facebook was new to me but have already had success with selling hay bales and communicating beef sales with customers.
I am 23 years old and at the part of my life of becoming an adult and making adult decisions. It’s hard and this internship is just one of them but anything in life worth doing is. I am truly grateful and excited for this internship and the impact it will have in my life.
]]>Week 8: Rest Well!
High: Willie invited me and my family to a PBR event. We had so much fun. I also went to see the new Barbie movie with my best friend from high school... Ava! Shoutout to my favorite movie theater marathoner ;)
Low: Texas heat.
Buffalo: I was supposed to get a root canal but turns out we just needed to adjust my bite. Turns out that if you clench your teeth all day they are a lot more sensitive to any restoration procedures. Meaning it takes a lot to get your teeth to feel how they used to. Learn something new every day!
This past week I got a bit of a break from some of the tractor work and was mostly focused on calls. It reminded me how important it is to make sure we take breaks from time to time and get rest. It is impossible to keep giving 100% all of the time if you don’t take a minute to recharge. Things in life are rarely a sprint. Most of the time the jobs we are given are marathons that take time to complete and best to do so within scheduled intervals. Even in writing this, I gave myself a minute to rest after my tractor shift before jumping right in. (That heat will eat up your energy like no other!) One of the best ways I have found to rest is less with getting straight on my phone but rather taking a minute to close my eyes or even read my Bible. (Though I don’t do either of those as often as I should.)
Consider this a PSA to stay hydrated and rest well. It is easy to look for a dopamine heat scrolling though Instagram or TikTok but think, "what would be the best way for me to rest right now?" Do I need to eat some food and take a nap allowing rest for my body or should I take a walk and clear my mind up before starting the day.
For me running is a form of rest. It takes the focus off the to do list for the day and focuses me on one thing. It also serves as a great time for me to get in there with God. (Fun fact: Exercise will also release dopamine! So not only will your body become more fit and active but you will actually FEEL happier!)
I was so thankful to get to spend some extra time with my parents this week. Especially since the fall semester is right around the corner and I won’t get to see them much during school. This internship has taught me so much even if I can’t see it all right now. I am so excited to see how it translates into schoolwork, relationships, my ability to time manage, and even serve the community.

]]>High: I got to go on vacation for the Fourth of July and see my whole family in Kansas.
Low: While I was out of town on said vacation one of my horses coliced. (My Mustang of all horses!)Thankfully he has been recovering nicely and is happy to be home from the vet.
Buffalo: I made friendship bracelets with some college friends! It had been so long since I had gotten the chance to do some innocent arts and crafts activity. I really enjoyed the time I got to spend with them.
Before I left the tractor had been heating up on us really fast and wouldn’t go back down. We found out this is due to dust build up in the radiators concreted by the use of water to try and spray them out. Instead, we were advised to use an air compression hose to get blow out the dust. Not only did this fix the temperature issue but the tractor started to run faster and more effectively overall. It served as a good reminder of how big problems don’t always require complicated solutions.
Often answers can be found by simply swallowing your pride. Once you see where you can die to yourself and chose Christ, not only do you start to hold healthier relationships but you find peace in the LORD. The most powerful tool I was the Lord ever showed me was humility. Recognize where you went wrong, acknowledge it, own up to it, learn from it, and move on.
I really appreciate this internship and find a lot of satisfaction in our work but boy, if it isn’t humbling. However, I don’t think the struggle is a bad thing or a thing to shy away from. It is in the struggles that you find what you are made of and what you will cling to. For me, since my senior year of high school, it has been 1 Peter 4:12-13. It explains that we are to expect hardships and even calls us to REJOICE for as we endure we are becoming like Christ! It is this process that will make His return all the more sweet. Therefore, even when my horse coliced and I felt as though I might have to say goodbye to a small part of my world forever, I knew at the end of the day, it was going to be ok.

This week has been a tough week. we have been at the firewheel mall balling the fields out there and 2 of three fields have very little hay and hard to see where the hay is. Also, we have been dealing with the heat, the tractor has been overheating a bit so it's hot out there for sure.
Some of the things I learned this week was how to be more aware of the tractor and equipment. I was constantly watching the temperature gauge making sure the tractor didn't overheat and when it got hot, I faced it into the wind and popped the hood to let it sit and clean out the air filter. I have also learned how to be more aware of the equipment i have been using the rake a lot this week and have become very aware of how it runs turns and how far out it is.
In my book the big leap it was talking about braking family traditions and going outside of them. if you go outside of your family norms your family will still be there for you when you need them, they might nit be happy at first but they will still be there for you.
At G Farms we have a couple different things we offer. One of the things we offer is our 100% grass fed beef we sell in ⅛ ¼ ½ or just ground beef, we also are doing flowers, we are open Monday Wednesday and Friday from 7-10am our address is 15017 county road 349, you can come out to the farm and pick as many flowers as you want and go to hams orchard down the road for lunch, we also do a bee removal service and afterwards we will put you in touch with our construction company DC&H construction for anything that need repairs.

This week I learned about the 2nd secret of creating a raving fan. That secret is “discover what your customer wants” once you do this you can off the perfect service that meets both your passions and your customers needs.
What have I learned
This week I learned that hard work comes easy and easy work come hard. What I mean by this is you must put in the hard work before you can be rewarded with the easy work. This is not always true but it is good to remember anytime you feel like your too good for the work you are doing.

]]>A lesson in business:
This past week I have gotten the privilege to be a part of many different facets of the G Farms business. So far this week I have learned the basics of how the Facebook algorithm works, how to make effective/ personal calls to our clients, and how to put a work schedule together. Something that was emphasized in this meeting was to make small changes so we can track if they actually worked. The example given to me was if product A was red but wasn’t selling well you shouldn’t completely rebrand to blue. Instead, try red with some additives of blue, or maybe mix the two to make purple and see if it sells better.
Fanatical prospecting:
Chapter 6 in Fanatical Prospecting is all about knowing your numbers. At any given time you should be able to know how many calls you have made and how many people from those calls might be interested. It doesn’t explicitly say this in the book but organization is essential. You must keep the number of calls you have made as well as the quality of those calls. These are both elements of performance. You can make a ton of calls but if none of those calls lead anywhere then they were ultimately a waste of time. But if you make fewer calls however some of those actually end up in leads then your time was used more effectively!
High, low, buffalo:
This is a game that my Bible study in college does and I thought it might be nice to implement in my blog posts. It is the high and low of your week and then something odd or worth mentioning that doesn’t really fit into either category.
High:
I found a host home to live in while I am doing this internship! (I am from Argyle, Tx.)
Low:
No one came out to pick flowers for my event day, I think this is due to some faults with my advertisements. Every mistake is an area to learn.

The property we are cutting hay for has a bunch of amazingly sweet animals! Every time I got out of the tractor 4 little puppies would be swarming around my legs and it was impossible not to pet them! I am now a firm believer work is always better when four puppies are there to cheer you on.

I started reading the book "Fanatical Prospecting" this month. It's been an eye-opener, to say the least.
As a sales professional, I always knew that prospecting was one of the most important parts of the sales process. But this book has given me a new perspective on what it takes to be a top-performing salesperson.
What's even more exciting is that I'm able to take what I'm learning from the book and apply it to my personal life. As a parent, I'm constantly looking for ways to teach my children important life skills. And being a sales superstar while raising a family takes a lot of discipline. It's teaching my children the importance of being persistent and developing relationships with customers.
One of the things that really resonated with me in the book is the idea of having a "why". Why do you do what you do? What motivates you to get up every morning and make those prospecting calls? For me, my "why" is my family. I want to provide them with the best life possible, and that means being a top-performing salesperson.
As I mentioned earlier, being a sales superstar while raising a family takes a lot of discipline. But it's not impossible. In fact, I've found that the skills I'm developing as a salesperson are actually helping me be a better parent.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned from the book is the importance of persistence. In sales, you can't give up after one rejection. You need to keep pushing forward, even when it feels like no one is interested in what you have to offer. The same is true with parenting. There are going to be days when it feels like you're not getting through to your kids. But you can't give up. You need to keep trying, keep communicating, and keep building those relationships.
Another skill that I'm developing as a salesperson is the ability to listen. When you're prospecting, you need to really listen to your customers' needs and pain points. You can't just push your product or service on them. The same is true with parenting. You need to listen to your children's concerns and fears, and really try to understand where they're coming from.
One of the things I love about my job is that I can take what I'm learning and teach it to my children. They're still young, but even at their age, I can start instilling in them the importance of persistence and building relationships.
For example, when we're playing together and my son gets frustrated because he can't figure something out, I remind him that it's okay to make mistakes. I tell him that he just needs to keep trying, and eventually he'll figure it out. This is the same mindset that I have when I'm prospecting.
Another way that I'm teaching my children about sales is by showing them how to build relationships. When we go to the grocery store, I encourage them to say "hello" to the cashier and ask them how their day is going. It's a small thing, but it's helping them develop the social skills that will be so important later in life.
Reading "Fanatical Prospecting" has been a great experience for me so far. Not only am I learning valuable skills that will help me be a better salesperson, but I'm also able to apply those skills to my personal life. Teaching my children about persistence, building relationships, and having a growth mindset is just as important to me as hitting my sales goals. 😊

This weeks reading has been a good lesson for myself, and my children!! Its been a great teaching opportunity to show them that even though they all think differently, it’s they can work together to come up with better ideas than they may have started with.

Who am I? It’s been a while since I have written. There are so many new people coming to the farm daily.
Who am I? My name is Willie Grubaugh. I am the owner of G Farms. I have been working with cattle since I turned 14. At 14, I met the man I call my Dad. He had a 30 acre farm we lived on outside of Kaufman, Texas. He added a new lease here, and again there. Dad started out with registered Charolais cattle. Over time, he converted as he grew his herd to grade cattle. We also had paint ponies. This is where I learned about training horses, working cattle, how to hang gates, dig holes, build fence, grow a garden, and so much more.
I was given my first horse at 15. I bought my first cow at the same age. She was a Simmental show heifer. I showed her and one other through high school. I also started learning to ride bulls through high school rodeo. To help pay for fees and travel, I trained horses for neighbors in the area. I worked for a couple of rodeo contractors feeding bulls, penning, sorting, and loading their bucking horses and bulls. I also worked for The Burning Tree Ranch. At the time, The Burning Tree was a Beefmaster cattle ranch. I started working in trade for bred Beefmaster cows. I built a small herd of Beefmaster cattle over time.
Fast Forward to the era of my daughters in school and G Farms. I had switched over to a growing herd of grade black, angus type cattle and a registered herd of Brangus cattle for the show ring. My 3 daughters showed our Brangus cattle for years.
While the girls were focused on winning in the show ring, I started diving into and studying beef production, the quality variations, the impact of hanging & aging times, studying carcasses at area processors, and so on. I had a solid corporate career, but the farm was my passion. In 2013 I was laid off. I knew I could make it with the farm. G Farms Cowpooling became my focus, perfecting our beef, and defining Cowpooling to make it available for anyone & everyone was my obsession. After the 3 girls graduated one by one, I continued to focus on the beef herd and beef production. Today, G Farms Cowpooling delivers to North Texas, East Texas, 35 from DFW down to Austin, and 45 from DFW down to Austin.
What is G Farms Cowpooling? Cowpooling means, you can order the ⅛, ¼, ½, or any combination thereof that best suits your household. The old school way, you would go to the local farmer / rancher. The farmer would tell you. “Get the money together & I’ll drop it off at the butcher”. So you would go to your friends and family with this great idea of “going in together to split a cow”. We never want you to over buy. The beef comes vacuumed sealed. Well, the average life of a vacuum seal is about 18 months. If that seal is jeopardized it could taste frost bit. We don't want that nor you! And we don't want you eating that frost bit beef for the next two years. You and your family deserve FRESH! Now the second thing that our questioning lets us know if you have little ones and/or teens or soon to be empty nesters your size order may change the next time you order, so we try to make recommendations.
We understand and can relate to fear. The panic of wanting to store or prepare by purchasing in bulk.
