Solution for a Procrastinator

This week, Willie and Kelsey had me start reading a book called The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins. I went into it not knowing what to expect, and was completely blown away. Mel introduces this rule that she calls the 5 second rule. The idea of the rule, is that the moment you have an instinct to act on a goal, you must count down from 5, and then physically move before your brain kills it. An example of this would be counting down from 5 and getting straight out of bed, rather than hitting the snooze button.

While this rule might sound simple, I have found that it completely changed my mindset. I have always been someone that struggled with procrastination, and I always joked with my parents that, "I might have taken to the last minute to get my homework done, but I got it done." They obviously were never thrilled with this answer, especially as it usually worked to the detriment of my grades. However, when I applied Mel's rule to my life, I found that it is a lot easier for me to not procrastinate.

While I have only been using it for a few days, I have noticed that I have been a lot more productive in this time, and that I do not think about doing things for hours, but get up and do them. For some reason, counting down from 5, and forcing myself to move has solved a big chunk of my problems with procrastinating. I have been reading this book very rapidly, and have found all of the advice in it helpful. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who struggles with procrastinating.
